Why We Have Decided Not to Produce a Shampoo and Conditioner

We’ve received many requests to introduce a shampoo and conditioner. We get this inquiry at least 3 times a week. The sentiment behind your question is lovely, it boils down to your trust in our brand, and I promise you we thought long and hard about it. But after many conversations we’ve opted not to move forward with a shampoo and conditioner line. Here’s why:

  1. Our Focus is on Unique, Impactful Formulations: Shampoo and conditioner formulas are often standardized, which means it’s challenging to create something that truly stands out. We’re dedicated to offering products that make a real difference, and we haven’t found a way to bring something genuinely unique to this category.
  2. Staying True to Our Production Process: We produce majority of our ingredients in-house. It really sets us apart in creating formulations which truly work. For shampoos and conditioners, the main formulation would need to be produced externally through contract manufacturing. Now, contract manufacturing is what produces majority of the beauty products in the market. It is very rare to find a company which formulates and packages in-house and even more rare to find a company which produces the ingredients that go into the formulations. We take great pride in being able to do both of these things.  Starting a shampoo and conditioner line would take us away from this manufacturing practice.

  3. Logistical Considerations: Shampoo and conditioner require larger bottles, which means more storage space and different packing machinery. Our facilities are optimized for our current size range, and shifting to a new setup would be a significant challenge.

  4. Financial Viability: The shampoo and conditioner market is highly competitive, with low profit margins. Entering this market would mean relying on high-volume sales, which doesn’t align with our focus on quality over quantity and in nurturing our client relationships.

  5. A Highly Saturated Market: There are already countless options for shampoo and conditioner available. Rather than entering an overcrowded space, we choose to focus on products where we can genuinely make an impact. We would be happy to guide you on how to select a shampoo and conditioner that would work best for you.

This is why it is really important to create brand guidelines and values. Because when creating new products, you’re able to send the decision through a chain of questions aimed at ensuring that what you’re doing aligns with your brand fully. Our values remain the same:

SMALL BATCH PRODUCTION: We cold press and distill our own oils and use mechanical filtration to guarantee the potency, freshness and integrity of our ingredients

EXPERT FORMULATIONS: We work closely with industry professional to curate effective and safe formulations

EFFICACY: Every ingredient in our formula has a purpose, to ensure that you have a results-driven product

TRANSPARENCY: We want you to be part of our journey and ensure that you understand why each ingredient is selected.

SIMPLICITY: Our goal is to only add what’s needed, not what isn’t. There are no "hero" ingredients. All our ingredients are heroes.

ENVIRONMENT: Our impact on the environment guides every decision we make. From how we produce, to our packaging to how we deal with our production waste.
